I rarely give a 5 star rating but this shaver deserves it. I once had a Braun shaver that went for about $150 10 years ago. It broke and I replaced it with a Norelco. It caused a rash every time I used it. I have been using a blade for about 8 years since the last time I used an electric shaver. I deceided to treat myself and get another Braun. I was first looking at the selfcleaning Braun's. Then I saw this freeglider 6610. I remembered what the Norelco did so I went for the 6610 because of the conditiner. When I used it I was shocked. It worked as well as a razor if not better. My skin feels great with no rash. I feel for around $50 this was the best deal I have gotten in a while.
Now after compairing the 6610 and the 6680,and 6690. If i had to choose again I would would buy the 6690. The reason is it costs $10 more from J@R but you are getting 4 more cartriges which is worth $5 and a free travel bag and a charging stand. The difereance in the 2 razors is the 6610 uses standard rechargable batterys. They do not hold the charge as long as the NI-HY battery's do. The Ni-hy battery has a quick charge. Also for some reason the top of the line 6690 is currently selling for $60 less than the cheaper 6680 which is the same shaver but without the stand.
Edited on Dec 26 2004: It looks like the 6610 and the 6690 are on clearance here on Amazon. I bought 2 6610 for $20 each and 2 6690 for $45 each. They are allmost giving them away with the free $50 gift certificate that you get for buying $129 Braun products. These will make great Gifts.

Braun 6610 FreeGlider Electric ShaverA shaver that automatically conditions your skin as you shave? Braun was the first to come up with this smart idea. The result is a smooth gliding shaver that sensitive skin will love. After a cartridge containing the conditioning solution is inserted into the bottom of the shaver, a slender applicator bar running parallel to the cutting foils releases the liquid as you shave. The Glide Control setting lets you choose between minimum and maximum release. Adding to the comfortable shave is the pivoting head equipped with two foils and a cutter that hug face and neck contours. The head can also be fixed in place if desired, and a trimmer pops up to define jaw lines and sideburns. Another convenient feature is the start/stop button. It can be depressed slightly and held for a quick touch-up shave, or depressed all the way and locked for a longer shave. Large hands will appreciate the girth of this shaver, which requires a thicker handle due to the cartridge system. Its transparent, high-tech design is quite distinctive. Cordless, the shaver features an LED charging light and provides 40 minutes of shaving time on a full charge. Two conditioner cartridges and a cleaning brush are included, although the shaver can be easily rinsed clean under hot tap water. Because the conditioning solution is 90 percent alcohol and flammable, smoking near the shaver should be avoided. Braun covers the shaver with a two-year warranty. --Ann Bieri
